WORD from BK Youth To Sudan Youth

POETRY FROM MY STUDENTS IN NYC TO MY STUDENTS IN SUDAN
From BK to Khartoum:

TO UNITY HOUSE,
Don’t give up hope!
Keep communicating with the community
Right here in Brooklyn community is firght gangs and currupt politicians.
We also have families and schools, people volunteering at the grassoroots to better our condition together.
Tribalism and racism don’t sound that different from the conditions in Brooklyn.
Sure, things are glassier here, not necessarily better.
But talking and getting together can make things better.

If I could say anything I would say…
Peace, Unity, Respect, Honesty, Fairness and Love
Is all anyone needs to run
A perfect government
Not money and greed.

To Unity House

If I could say anything to you
I would say Freedom is a must
You can’t live in a government
That you can’t trust.
Your speech is more powerful
Than the gun you tuck

To share thoughts can be a life saver
People will want to unite
If they can relate to your pain and anger
They will come together and face the danger

All because your speech
is one of the most powerful things ever
Please Unite
And stay together.

Souls cry out for help
Of weapons
Guns rise to the moons of hope
Pain flows at the foot of men’s hearts
Believe that freedom is the key of half of life but yet no
Voices
Are heard.

-Young Woman at Brooklyn High School for Leadership

I think what is going on in Sudan is corrupted and at a loss for a new way of life.  The theocratical government of all the violence, racism and ignorant beliefs.  The levels are unbalanced.  The people she try to find a fair solution
To all the confusion.

-Erin Seautlebury, Brooklyn High School for Leadership 2/9/12

If could say anything to youth of Sudan, I would say don’t stop…
Do what you think is right.
It’s your life…

Racism should not be allowed as I just heard from a poet I never met before told me ya wer so deep as a crowd fighiting the gov just make a point but they just … there with the points ya tried to make take ya hand and put a fist up cuz dun with the bull they tryna give ya it might be hard out there like tryna lay down in a booth, like he said “what are they more afraid of the truth or the youth?”
-Kaycee Cuadrado, BK HS for Leadership

if I could say anything I would say keep ya’ll head up, don’t feel down, stay in a positive mind set, keep dreaming because your dream may come true if you try your best, feel free to speak your mind, do positive and positive things will come back to you.
